Veneers

Like everything we do, veneer selection is a collaboration between Innovant and your team or client. Together, we’ll decide on veneer species, cut, color, and finishes, including our very own sustainable GreenLockTM. We even consider metamerism to ensure that your piece looks just right in any light.

We’ve spent over 30 years building trusted partnerships with US and Canadian veneer suppliers who meet our high standards, such as color and cathedral consistency, grain straightness, and the kind of quality you can see and feel across every surface.

Wood veneer is sliced from logs using different methods, each producing distinct grain patterns and degrees of material efficiency, which influence cost:

  • Plain Sliced (most economical)
  • Quarter Sliced (moderate cost)
  • Rift Sliced (premium option)

Our finishing department works closely with your team to precisely replicate custom veneer stains and topcoat finishes with an ability
to color match exactly to your sample.

Once a standard color or color match has been approved, Innovant maintains multiple 24” square control samples and records the coloring formula for ongoing use. All veneer components are sanded with 180 grit and stained to match the control sample.

Control samples are kept in our finishing department, and every piece out of the spray booth is checked against them for consistency.

In a temperature-controlled environment, veneer surfaces are treated with two box coats of sealer separated by waiting periods before scuff sanding with 320 grit. Finally, a single top box coat of polyurethane is applied with the appropriate sheen.

GreenLock™ 

Naturally, our commitment led us to develop a better topcoat solution. Greenlock™ is Innovant’s formaldehyde-free finish, engineered to meet our high standards for durability and performance while significantly reducing emissions.
