Sustainability Story

For Innovant, corporate sustainability is first and foremost about the next generation, and the generation after that. After 35 years of business, we are focused on building the infrastructure, leadership and inspiration that will underpin the next 35 years. This endeavor includes a focus on the core “DNA” of our successes to date.

Facilities

Standard panel heights, work surface depths, etc. have been engineered to minimize waste. Innovant not only orders raw goods with this in mind, but also implements software to generate cut-lists that maximize yield. We also source sustainable materials, including panel fabrics made with recycled polyester and metal pedestals made of automotive grade steel (post-industrial off-cuts and waste) from US car manufacturers.

Innovant’s manufacturing processes and lead times minimize the need for overstocking. We rarely store discontinued products on our shelves. We are also able to maximize small-footprint warehousing, even as our order volume increases.

With all facility retrofits, Innovant strives to maintain or decrease our environmental impact, whether energy, water or material use. Recent examples include the remodeling of our showroom to incorporate low-flow fixtures in the bathrooms and at our factory where we retrofitted High Efficiency T8 lighting. Innovant’s manufacturing facility also participates in Long Island Power Authority’s voluntary program to minimize power usage during peak demand periods.

Our Initiatives

Since its inception, Innovant has put our customers first. Rather than bend client requirements to meet the design of our standard products, Innovant collaborates with our customers and their project teams to meet client specific aesthetic, budgetary and functional goals. In the narrowest sense, their sustainability goals might include client identified environmental or health related targets. These targets are important and Innovant brings a willingness to modify products, finishes and manufacturing practices to help achieve these goals. Product innovations like our Greenlock veneer finish, customer specific EDP’s and creative “zero waste” packaging initiatives are examples of our dedication to this endeavor.

SCS Indoor Advantage Gold: Recognized by USGBC, this certification confirms that all Innovant furniture meets strict standards for formaldehyde and TVOC emissions. SCS Indoor Advantage Gold environmental certification is current for all of Innovant’s furniture products.
SCS HPD 2.1.1 Standard: Innovant has HPD certifications for two product lines and can prepare third-party certified HPDs for client-specific products when schedules allow.
ANSI/BIFMA: Our products are tested to comply with applicable ANSI/BIFMA safety standards.
Environmental Product Declarations: Innovant currently has EPDs for 2 product lines, Private Office Casegoods and CROSS Benching. Innovant is motivated to pursue EPDs for additional product lines.
