The Challenge
In 2018 Chicago Public Media had completely outgrown its highly desirable office space at Navy Pier. To be able to keep their prime real estate, CPM embarked on an aggressive plan to densify and modernize their space. An open plan design approach was the obvious direction, however staff members emphasized their desire to maintain a greater sense of privacy and defined personal space. Sit / Stand functionality was a must, and budget was always limited due to the not for profit status of CPM.
The Innovant Solution
Innovant’s REX benching was promoted for its clean aesthetics, enhanced Sit / Stand functionality and affordable price point. Dimensions were determined based on required head count, future expansion requirements and integration with all of the other amenity based design features throughout the office. Privacy and space definition were uniquely accomplished using curved PET privacy panels that wrapped around the back of each worksurface. These PET privacy panels went up and down with the worksurface and were very effective at concealing under desk structure and wiring, further enhancing the clean, uncluttered aesthetics of the space. PET is a cost effective acoustic material that is an excellent low cost substitute to fabric wrapped panels.
The Result
The REX Benching workstations aesthetically meshed with the surrounding office details to deliver a sophisticated environment that reflects the brand and culture of Chicago Public Media on a limited budget.
